Product Description
Susquehanna Odyssey: A Journey Worthy of Remembrance A man recaptures his past by reflecting on the experience of his youth. In a series of short stories that mirror the events which took place in and around a small river town in rural Pennsylvania during the second half of the twentieth century, we see a boy become a man. Like a modern day Odysseus, the writer takes us through his military, educational and professional life while he searches for meaning in the life he lives. Growing up in a town along the Susquehanna under less than desirable conditions motivates a boy to challenge his surroundings and, in doing so, succeed in spite of the life into which he was born. We follow the writer who, as a boy, lives in a tar paper shack. We look in on him when, as a sixteen- year old, he begins his military service. We accompany him as he becomes a Marine and meets a President of the United States. We see him begin and finish university studies, and we realize that he never forgets his attachment to a river which runs through his hometown. Each short story in "Susquehanna..." evokes pathos, humor, determination and pride, and all the accounts in the book open a window of time past which portrays the hopes and aspirations of the common man. These stories will move you, and the reader will be compelled to share some of life's most treasured moments.
